MUSLIMS MEET THE MET
The first of a series meetings, where the young people of Newham MEET THE MET, was held at the The Minhaj-ul-Qur’an International Mosque, Romford Road, Forest Gate.
For two hours young Muslims questioned four officers about policing the borough. Topics ranged from stop-and-search, knife crime and drugs to terrorism, radicalisation, and how relations and interaction between Muslims and the Met can be improved.
Superintendent Gary Buttercase, deputy borough commander, said afterwards: “The meeting at the mosque was beyond my expectations. We learnt a lot and I hope the young people did too. This is a beginning – and a very good beginning.”
Together with Supt Buttercase were Sergeants Mike Masterson and Bob Dubar and PC Glen Calvert. The meeting was organised by Bridge Builders and the mosque under the chairmanship of Ishtiaq Ahmed. Abbas Aziz chaired the meeting.
