7/7 REMEMBRANCE AT NEWHAM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

On July 7, 2010, the fifth anniversary of the London bombings was commemorated at Newham University Hospital. The peace event, held annually by Bridge Builders, was organised in association with the hospital.

Music, prayers, speeches and candle-lighting were led by co-hosts Akash Sondhi and Poonam Gunaseelan. Guests included community and faith leaders together with members of the police, ambulance and fire services and hospital staff.

Speakers included the Rt Hon Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham; Susan Higgins, Chair of Genesis Community Foundation; Mark Ogden Meade, the hospital’s chief operating officer and Asif Shakoor and Paul Amuzie of Bridge Builders. Prayers were led by hospital chaplains Yunis Dudhwala and Russell Ogsten.

Music was performed by the choir of Nelson Primary School, the drum band of Langdon School and by Nivetha Sivanantharaja on the veena.
